[CANNED INTRO] Hi there. I’m Sami. And I’m Elinor. And you’re listening to Conversations with my Daughter where we sit down and discuss food, books, pets, and anything else that comes to mind. So we look forward to seeing you every week. And I hope you enjoy.
[SAMI BEDELL-MULHERN] Okay, so today is Halloween.
[ELINOR MULHERN] I guess.
[SAMI BEDELL-MULHERN] It is.
[ELINOR MULHERN] Oh Yeah.
[SAMI BEDELL-MULHERN] Yeah. So are we going trick or treating?
[ELINOR MULHERN] No.
[SAMI BEDELL-MULHERN] So what are we gonna do instead?
[ELINOR MULHERN] Um, we’re gonna sit at home and eat candy, and we’re going to be on the toilet most of the night.
[SAMI BEDELL-MULHERN] What?
[ELINOR MULHERN] Blah, blah, blah, blah.
[SAMI BEDELL-MULHERN] So there’s a new movie too on HBO Max called The Witches. Are we excited to watch that? Yeah.
[ELINOR MULHERN] No. Did they sponsor us?
[SAMI BEDELL-MULHERN] No.
[ELINOR MULHERN] Why?
[SAMI BEDELL-MULHERN] Okay, cuz nobody sponsors us. We’re not big enough to be sponsored.
[ELINOR MULHERN] Well, what if I sponsor myself?
[SAMI BEDELL-MULHERN] Okay. So yeah, what things should families do on Halloween this year? Should they create fun snacks and make cookies? Like, because we’re not going trick or treating this year? And maybe you are that’s totally fine, but we’re not trick or treating this year.
[ELINOR MULHERN] No. Because if we were them, we would just I know, my friend. She’s going trick or treating, but her mom is just throwing out the candy and giving them he wants. So if you’re listening to this before, um, Halloween, I’m sorry.
[SAMI BEDELL-MULHERN] No, well, this is going out on Halloween.
[ELINOR MULHERN] No, I know. But like before you go trick or treating. No.
[SAMI BEDELL-MULHERN] So um, we’re gonna eat good food.
[ELINOR MULHERN] We are? I thought we were just gonna get fat.
[SAMI BEDELL-MULHERN] That too. And then we’re going to watch good movies and we’re going to eat candy but we are not trick or treating.
[ELINOR MULHERN] How much candy are we going to eat?
[SAMI BEDELL-MULHERN] I don’t know.
[ELINOR MULHERN] We’re gonna eat a lot of candy.
[SAMI BEDELL-MULHERN] Okay, so
[ELINOR MULHERN] Oh wait, I heard actually candy it doesn’t actually hurt your teeth so kids you better listen to this candy doesn’t actually hurt it doesn’t hurt your teeth.
[SAMI BEDELL-MULHERN] Wait, woah, woah, woah, woah. What do you mean candy doesn’t actually hurt your teeth?
[ELINOR MULHERN] You it just depends how long the candy sits on your teeth. So if you just swallow it like point three seconds then then nothing’s gonna happen but if you’re like [crunching sound] and put her candy on your teeth…
[SAMI BEDELL-MULHERN] ok we are not dentists. We are not anybody.
[ELINOR MULHERN] I heard it on TikTok. He was a dentist he was the dentist or something.
[SAMI BEDELL-MULHERN] So basically what you’re saying is the less the sugar sits on your teeth, the better it will be.
[ELINOR MULHERN] Yeah.
[SAMI BEDELL-MULHERN] So we are going to be making some Halloween food so orange colored
[ELINOR MULHERN] Oh wait, I have the best idea. Okay, so I made these really good cookies. Remember them cookies. They had like chocolate and the orange things. What if we add the pumpkin spices stuff into it?
[SAMI BEDELL-MULHERN] Oh, how do you all feel about pumpkin spice?
[ELINOR MULHERN] I don’t even know what it is.
[SAMI BEDELL-MULHERN] Have you heard of like PSL like pumpkin spice latte like pumpkin spice the thing?
[ELINOR MULHERN] Oh yeah. Oh, okay. La Yeah.
[SAMI BEDELL-MULHERN] Okay, so get some pumpkin spice
[ELINOR MULHERN] Pumpkin spice.
[SAMI BEDELL-MULHERN] Okay, so what we’re going to do in our home because we are choosing not to well we are choosing to do is we are not going to trick or treat. Instead, we’re going to watch some. So we are going to choose to make some good food that’s maybe orange flavored and Halloween themed. And we are going to eat our own candy that we have in our own home.
[ELINOR MULHERN] We’re going to butterscotch, cookie scotch.
[SAMI BEDELL-MULHERN] Should we make more butterscotch chocolate chip cookies?
[ELINOR MULHERN] What if we made our own caramel apples?
[SAMI BEDELL-MULHERN] We could make our own caramel apples? You can’t see her face but she’s a weird face.
[ELINOR MULHERN] Maybe you should take a picture of this.
[SAMI BEDELL-MULHERN] We could.
Okay.
[ELINOR MULHERN] Dang, so there’s a song stuck in my head. It’s the Wayne’s World song.
[SAMI BEDELL-MULHERN] Sing it!
Oh you’re so shy.
[ELINOR MULHERN] No it’s just a weird song. I don’t know why it’s like in my head, but it is.
[SAMI BEDELL-MULHERN] Okay. So that’s what we’re gonna do for Halloween. We’re just going to stay home, hunker down eat candy.
[ELINOR MULHERN] [singing] Wayne’s World, Wayne’s World. Party time. Excellent. Okay, I just had to sing it.
[SAMI BEDELL-MULHERN] But what does that have to do with Halloween?
[ELINOR MULHERN] I don’t know. It just got stuck in my head. Okay, I’m sorry for headphone users. I’m yelling. But I just had to say it’s just like Yeah. I’m sorry for our editor. You had to hear that. Okay? Yes.
[SAMI BEDELL-MULHERN] Well, anyway,
[ELINOR MULHERN] No, we’re not done yet. We have a lot of things to talk about a lot of things to do. When we were little Wait, wait, why? Why? Well, why are people waiting for episodes that are six minutes long? Why are they waiting a week? Why can’t they be like 10 minutes long? It’s like, babooshka.
[SAMI BEDELL-MULHERN] What can you talk about whatever you want? What do you want to talk about?
See, you got nothing,
[ELINOR MULHERN] But let’s just say random stuff.
[SAMI BEDELL-MULHERN] We’re talking about Halloween.
Oh, let’s talk about the neighbors next door.
[ELINOR MULHERN] We have very many neighbors next door.
[SAMI BEDELL-MULHERN] Listen! The ones next door. They have a balloon coming out of there grate from the floor. Like..
[ELINOR MULHERN] Oh, yeah. And if you go to that grate thing, there’s actually Pennywise in there and he’ll go like, yeah, yeah.
[SAMI BEDELL-MULHERN] That’s creepy. Yeah, yeah. So how do you feel about the fact that we don’t decorate our house for Halloween?
[ELINOR MULHERN] I frankly don’t care.
[SAMI BEDELL-MULHERN] You don’t care?
[ELINOR MULHERN] I don’t care. We have our neighbors. They decorate our house for us.
[SAMI BEDELL-MULHERN] Well, they decorate our neighborhoods.
[ELINOR MULHERN] Since thing basically.
[SAMI BEDELL-MULHERN] Which holiday Would you like to decorate?
[ELINOR MULHERN] Christmas! And my birthday.
Should we do birthday episode after fun because we didn’t do one. By the way. This is the last year like next year. I’m a teenager, so. Okay. Yeah, that that’s interesting. That’s not interesting what am I even talking about Okay, what’s a question?
[SAMI BEDELL-MULHERN] Let’s just say, Okay, so here’s what we’re gonna say. This year.
[ELINOR MULHERN] [burp] Excuse me!
[SAMI BEDELL-MULHERN] Did you just burp?
[ELINOR MULHERN] Can we keep that in there?
[SAMI BEDELL-MULHERN] Yes. Ok so this is what I’m going to say.
[ELINOR MULHERN] Okay, by the way our editor, that clap was not a pause.
[SAMI BEDELL-MULHERN] Um, I’m lost. This is not a professional podcast episode.
[ELINOR MULHERN] Nothing has to be.
[SAMI BEDELL-MULHERN] Okay. Well, anyway. We are chilling at home.
[ELINOR MULHERN] Please send us instructions on how to make a pumpkin spice latte from Starbucks.
[SAMI BEDELL-MULHERN] How to make a podcast Spice Latte?
[ELINOR MULHERN] No, Pumpkin.
[SAMI BEDELL-MULHERN] Today is not a good day.
[ELINOR MULHERN] I don’t know why when I say pumpkin, it sounds like a pumpkin.
[SAMI BEDELL-MULHERN] Well, anyway.
[ELINOR MULHERN] Woah we’re not done yet.
[SAMI BEDELL-MULHERN] What do you want to talk about?
[ELINOR MULHERN] We’re not scooping out the insides of pumpkin tea there. So I don’t know why I keep saying pumpkins. I don’t I don’t know. Okay. Oh sush.
[SAMI BEDELL-MULHERN] Well, thank you for listening.
[ELINOR MULHERN] No, we’re not done yet.
[SAMI BEDELL-MULHERN] Well, you have to give them something of value to listen to then.
[ELINOR MULHERN] Well they’re listening to my voice boom. shakalaka they’re listening to something.
[SAMI BEDELL-MULHERN] That’s not value.
[ELINOR MULHERN] But what if I’m, what if just being funny is just the value?

[SAMI BEDELL-MULHERN] Saturday.
[ELINOR MULHERN] You know, saying our friend no Saturday. Okay. Um, but what if what if? What if there’s like oh, weird, Blue Moon and she say Oh, or like something like Sorry, no. Okay.
Wait, wait, wait, what if we do a Halloween conspiracy theory episode? That would be fun. We should do right now. Welcome to conspiracy theory episode.
[SAMI BEDELL-MULHERN] Okay, so we’re happy Halloween. We’re happy to be back. We are back since we haven’t been back since November of last year. I know
[ELINOR MULHERN] But wait, wait wait what if what if we have two. We have this Halloween one and a Halloween conspiracy theory.

Elinor (daughter) and Sami (mom) were on vacation in Phoenix in March or 2019 when the concept of the mother-daughter podcast was born.
Sami, a digital marketing strategist, was working on her own podcast, when Elinor decided she needed one of her own. When talking about concepts, the idea of having regular chats about life and recording them came up.
And with that, Conversations with My Daughter was born.
Each week, a new topic, and possible life lesson, are brought to you with the hopes it will make you smile, remember conversations with your own mom, and hopefully inspire new conversations with your own children.
