What the heck is a VSCO girl?

Sami: Do you think adults know what VSCO is?

Elinor: Nope.

Sami: VSCO started from a photo editing software of the same name.  But what is a VSCO girl?

Elinor: VSCO language is:

  • an I oop (oops or I messed up)
  • sksksks (laughing)

VSCO fashion/lifestyle:

  • Hairstyle – half or half down or in a high ponytail as long as you use a scrunchie.
  • Hydroflask – because it’s all about saving the turtles.
  • Wear Birkenstocks or crocks
  • Must drink Dutch Bros coffee
  • Metal straws
  • Carmax or Burts Bees

Sami: This is a trend that exploded on Tik Tok.  Do you think you’re a VSCO girl?

Ellie: Not really – a sort of VSCO girl.  I just saw people doing it and followed along.  It’s starting to fade.

You also need an oversized t-shirt.  And a fluffy dog.  Well – I made that part up.

“They” actually saved the turtles.  There are a bunch of VSCO girls all around the world.  Since they don’t use plastic, they actually made the government or something make a new plastic that breaks down.  Even in the water and dirt – so they technically saved the turtles.

Sami: Do you think it’s good that kids are using Tik Tok and social media to create trends and bring awareness?  You didn’t know that turtles needed saving.

Elinor: yea kind of.  I can’t do that though and make a change.

Sami: You could through the podcast and our TikTok.

Elinor: Don’t hang out with VSCO girls all the time cause you’ll hear the same sounds all the time.

They also need face masks and an iPhone X and perfume or something.  It’s weird.

Sami: Are there VSCO boys?

Elinor: Yes, it’s the same thing they’re just boys.  But they don’t wear scrunchies.

Sami: Should we do an episode about TiKTock sometime?  You can follow us @cwmdpodcast.

Elinor: If you want to be a VSCO girl become one – adults can do it too.  It’s not VSCO kid.

Elinor (daughter) and Sami (mom) were on vacation in Phoenix in March or 2019 when the concept of the mother-daughter podcast was born.

Sami, a digital marketing strategist, was working on her own podcast, when Elinor decided she needed one of her own.  When talking about concepts, the idea of having regular chats about life and recording them came up.

And with that, Conversations with My Daughter was born.

Each week, a new topic, and possible life lesson, are brought to you with the hopes it will make you smile, remember conversations with your own mom, and hopefully inspire new conversations with your own children.
